Yesterday, Microsoft extended an unprecedented invitation to Sony. The company proposed the existence of cross-play between competing consoles Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Today, Sony responded encouragingly, and somewhat hesitantly, to that suggestion.
“PlayStation has offered cross-platform support for various titles since 2002, beginning with Final Fantasy XI on PlayStation 2 and PC , ” says a statement released by GameSpot. “We would like to talk with distributors or developers who are interested in cross-platform game.”
Sony’s statements suggest that the company is open to enable cross-play feature between Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but only in the case of some games.
Currently, there is a lot of titles that would benefit by creating a bridge between Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network. Perhaps the most obvious example is Rocket League , which since its launch allows players on PC and PS4 play online together.
In any case, we believe this agreement between Microsoft and Sony would be good for both companies and for the players. What do you think, let me know in the comments?
