You unlock Perks by spending Skill Points, which you earn for driving stylishly in the game – performing drifts, jumps, skids, trading paint with other cars, bashing through fences, and so on. While some Perks cost just one Skill Point, some are more expensive. In addition, Perks unlock similar to how a skill tree works – so you’ll need to plan your path to getting some of the most valuable Perks in the game. Once you’ve unlocked a Perk, it’s available to you throughout the rest of the game. The first Perk you unlock in the game will allow you to bank XP for the skills you execute when driving. Essentially, any time you perform a skill move, you’ll be earning XP that will go towards your next level.
For drivers who want an extra challenge, chaining stylish driving moves like drifts and jumps together will give you a point multiplier for each skill you chain together. If you manage to chain together a huge string of moves together, you can expect a massive XP bonus at the end of the chain. Just don’t bash into another car or stationary object – doing so will make you lose your chain and all the XP you’ve accumulated along the way.
