The crafting tree or Schematics in broken down into Tiers. Tier 1, 2 and 3 and on. Tier 1 would be your lowest of the three ties which only has two slots for crafting materials, your highest Tier is Tier 3 which you have four slots for materials and gives you more freedom to customize, upgrade craft items but they will cost you more.
