Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, presented on Saturday February 1 before the Patent and Trademark Office of the United States quit an application to trademark the term Watch_Dogs that applies to game software and electronic game programs, without delving in reason. It should be noted that Ubisoft maintains other 5 brands on Watch_Dogs , but applicable to theater, TV shows, online games, manuals and toys.
This, coupled with the latest project, rule out the case of a cancellation and instead suggests a name change or a move of administrative court, but the company made no clarification. Watch_Dogs going to debut in November 2013, but Ubisoft have opted to delay it, citing reasons of quality and remains the most important promise of the new generation of consoles. Last we heard about the project is that the Nintendo missed its release schedule for 2014, which suggests problems of adaptation for Wii U.
UPDATE: Ubisoft released a press statement regarding the situation: “We are working directly with the Patent and Trademark Office of the United States to reintroduce the brand to Watch Dogs ., and will be active again in the next few days the issue has no impact on the Development Watch Dogs . “
