Capcom looks set to rise from its ashes during this 2015. And is that the Japanese company is that this season as usual wants his old hustle, and indeed only during the first months of the year will launch a number titles and collections, and in many cases works related to the Resident Evil series. And here is the first to arrive, Resident Evil HD Remaster, an interesting remake of adapting GameCube classic PlayStation appeared first and then in countless formats. A title that any fan of the genre and this kind of adventures to be missed for many reasons that from now on we will expose.
But first explain a little argument, since there is a large number of new players who did not enjoy this classic horror games at the time (remember that the original was released in 1996). Everything takes place in the small town of Raccoon City, where they are happening very strange facts. Yes, because hundreds of monstrous creatures are spread throughout the area, attacking mercilessly all my neighbors.
To placate or at least investigate what happened the police of the town sent a couple of teams, although the first, Bravo Team, disappears without a trace, so it’s up to the Alpha team get to the bottom for that matter. And soon will come to light a dark organization, Umbrella, which have much to do in this “incident”.
The main protagonists of this odyssey of terror are Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, well known (and loved) characters for fans of the saga. But these major players support other side as Albert Wesker and Rebecca Chambers or join Burton. They live a cloudy and dreary affair they will never forget…
Reborn Terror
For those who do not know, Resident Evil was the precursor of so-called horror adventures or Survival Horror genre that was very fashionable in the era of the 32 bits. And that is why this title we will be able to rediscover the essence of fear and survival, as it is an adventure that is necessary to investigate each of the recesses of the scenes for clues, objects that interact, secrets and, most importantly, ammunition and weapons! Every bullet counts in this odyssey of terror, adventure in which we face numerous bloodthirsty creatures.
Hunters, zombies, hazardous Crimson Heads or mutated dogs are some of the main enemies that must be faced. And this cast joins a range of bosses that those who have never enjoyed this title in any of its previous editions, surely enjoy significantly. No wonder some of these fights have gone to the history of this form of entertainment.
The grace of this is the need to be measuring our supplies and equipment, so the management of resources that we find ourselves on the road (ammo, healing herbs, etc.) forms a very important part of the game experience. The tension and the need to save bullets and cartridges is very present, especially during the early stages of the adventure, something that many of us miss in modern times … or at least until the arrival of new incursions within the genus as Alien: Isolation and The Evil Within.
That is why exploration and action component are an important part of the gameplay of the title, although these factors joins another fundamental: the puzzle solving. In Resident Evil is necessary to be finding (and using as needed) a series of objects vital items that can be manipulated using the corresponding menu screen for clues about its use, purpose or function. And if we add the interaction with various secondary characters that I have spoken, more elaborate than it appears at first history and, of course, the many shocks that await us along adventure, sum of these results as suggestive as varied and deep development.
In fact we think that in this sense the passage of time has only been a detriment to the playable sensitive side that exposes Resident Evil … to the point where we think a good number of users will enjoy even more with this production that I lived in most recent edition of this series (and such games in general).
You also need to extol the issue of double campaign. And we explain. Early in the game we must choose between driving to Chris or Jill, a choice which has more crumbs than it seems. Yes, because although both players must travel roughly the same scenarios (a huge mansion and surrounding areas), the fact is that both characters live different specific situations, interact with other characters and dissimilar ways and also have their own unique qualities.
For this reason, if we unfold the entire title and know everything that surrounds this mystery of Raccoon City and Umbrella, necessary and highly recommended to play with two characters. And between each campaign, the title can keep you entertained for 12-15 hours depending on the chosen difficulty level and ability of each user.
Improvements remastered
So much is already known by those who enjoyed the original PlayStation and GameCube (depending how you look). But Capcom has made some significant improvements affecting the title in a number of key areas.
The most obvious of these is the increased resolution. In PS4, Xbox One PC and the native resolution is 1080p, while in the case of the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles it comes to 720p .And because the scenarios are retendered and enjoy a stunning level of detail, the truth is that they all look good globally. Also in some cases have been reworked latter providing some freshness to the title. But it does not stop there. The characters, especially Chris and Jill, players enjoy a fairly prominent redesign, showing a significantly higher level of detail than that shown on early adventure.
The effects of light and shadow also been improved, and in a game like this are felt in an evident way. And finally, the adventure unfolds on consoles at very stable 30 frames per second animation, more than enough to ensure smoothness required in a title like this.
The result of all these graphical improvements is a title that, despite his age, due to its great design and use of prerendered mentioned scenarios presents a truly imposing appearance. In fact, it looks more sleek way that many current titles. And as vintage detail, you can play in 4: 3 instead of widescreen set by default.
But the graphics has also been supported by small adjustments related to your playable section. The highlight is that this time you can choose between the control systems rotational, a classic in this series in its infancy, or opt for a more current. We prefer the latter, but surely the most nostalgic and purists will want to experience again this reissue using the aforementioned traditional system. This choice depends entirely on the tastes of each user.
Last, but has a less important, it is also necessary to note that the sound effect has been retouched to make it compatible with 5.1 surround sound systems, being enjoyed by a certain play with headphones connected last generation. The atmosphere is amazing, the best that offers adventure, and this is achieved through a very dark ambient tunes, special effects and background noise baffling.
Among all these new and classic development shape a really suggestive title. Maybe some users will miss veteran incorporating some added another additional (new playable characters, play areas to explore totally unprecedented, etc.), but in any case is a remarkable remastering, a title that will hopefully serve Capcom to realize Flip continues to enjoy his beloved series Resident Evil in its purest form: that of Survival Horror.
Capcom has made a successful remastering of one of the best titles ever made in his career, Resident Evil, adventure will surely be tasted both traditional fans of the series as a large number of new players. A Survival Horror fledged full of mystery, copies enemies and really famous situations that give rise to a varied gameplay that has held up well over the years. Integrated improvements also bring some freshness to the classic.
