Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus Review

The bloodthirsty swordsman takes out the Dragon Sword, again, slicing all those demons once again in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus download its fury on PS Vita.

Ryu Hayabusa is back in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus on the PS Vita. In 2012, was the launch of Sony’s handheld, a year later,  it makes its returns to pace your widescreen the saga of the bizarre action conceived Tomonobu Itagaki is one of the most acclaimed of history … and also one of the most overhauled, as the Team Ninja and Tecmo Koei have made many “ports” and extensions of each of their deliveries .

PS Vita itself and Wii U have been the last to join this fashion, and PS3 and even paraded for the first Xbox. Ninja Gaiden 2 was released on Xbox 360 in 2008 and, in 2009, was adapted to PS3 with an expanded edition, which is now coming to PS Vita. Besides master the swordsman, Hayabusa also seems to be an expert in the art of star in “ports of ports”, like the Sony handheld, specialist receive many adaptations from PS3.

In this second installment, which goes on sale on soon , Ryu must confront the Black Spider Clan and Maximum Demons, who yearn to resurrect the Archfiend, a powerful creature that the Hayabusa clan confined into the depths of Mount Fuji. Sonia, a mysterious CIA agent, puts the hero on the track, which takes you halfway around the world.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus Review

The persecution of ninjas and demons protagonist leads to scenarios as diverse as Tokyo, New York and Venice. Luckily, not alone in the mission, but help, sporadically, by Rachel, Momiji and Ayane , three females to which we control in several chapters of the adventure. The argument, tired inconsequential, does not give much of its self: it is a mere excuse for the carnage that is in this adventure.

A “hack and slash” with pedigree

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus is an adaptation of one of the most remarkable “hack and slash”  games of the current generation, in which our task is to slice and sever the dozens of enemies that come their way. It is a “ported” in every way, that is, if you played in their day on the PS3 or Xbox 360, does not change all that much, if not, is the ideal opportunity to enjoy it.

The adventure consists of 17 chapters, representing a period of some thirteen hours. We are in control almost always of the masked Ryu Hayabusa , but there are three chapters featuring Momiji, Rachel and Ayane . The game is a series of fighting pure and hard, with two attack buttons, one for throwing projectiles, one for jumping and a final to block and dodge. The downside is that it has lost the slight exploration component that was found in the first Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus : platform areas are pretty slim and development is very linear.

The devilish difficulty is inherent in the saga, and this release for PS Vita keeps the canons, to make us swear in Aramaic when it start raining cakes and, without eating or drinking, we are with passage to another neighborhood. It is therefore essential to dodge and block discretion. There are four levels of difficulty, an a extra one, once we finished the adventure.

For the less skilled with sharp weapons,  difficulty mode “Hero” , which was already present in the first release of PS Vita. Thanks to this mode, we have low health, activates a turbo that allows automatically dodge attacks, so it is almost impossible to die. Actually, the game becomes a cakewalk too easy, in contrast to the hell that is other difficulty levels, as even the bosses drop a couple of hits. However, this way, the game is accessible to anyone who wants to play.

The sharp weapons are an inseparable part of the formula of the franchise. This time, Ryu has up to nine weapons for close combat Body, we get as we progress in the adventure. Besides the perennial Dragon Sword, we have knives, scythes, nunchakos, claws or staffs. The control varies slightly between some tools and others, with the addition that we can improve them ato theMuramasa’s shop to make them even more lethal. In addition, the protagonist has shurikens, a bow and a hand cannon as a  ranged weapons , and with four ninpo spells that are activated (flame of hell, phoenix in flames, sharp rotating blades and empty).

The three girls who occasionally appear have their own unique style. Rachel, uses a hammer and a gun. Meanwhile, Momiji used a pole and double jumps can chain. Finally, Ayane is very fast, thanks to the combined use of short swords and darts explosives. The inclusion of these ladies as playable characters is appreciated, but the experience is too fleeting, since each only stars in a short chapter.

The Vita functionality, only uses the touch screen. This allows direct projectiles secondary weapons very easily: just click on the enemy, no pointing. Regarding the first issue, it has lost the use of the gyroscope and rear touch panel, which certainly did not contribute too, so that could be a bit cumbersome.

Overall, the control responds very well, though, to this day, it could be a little rough when compared with other “hack and slash” modern, like Bayonetta, DMC or Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. Remember that the game is five years behind them, and the years take their toll. To that, add some semiautomatic camera problems, that although you can rotate the right stick, leaving us occasionally sold.

The violent component of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus is the bloodiest ever found in a game, not suitable for children or for those with a phobia of swimming in platelets. From the first minute, the adventure is a carnage of huge size, which does not skip on beheadings, amputees or viscera splatter. It is not unusual chest cut through the air or jumping enemies that crawl on the floor with knees stumps. In this sense, the game is even wilder than the first Sigma Plus , which was reduced to mere splotches of blood, without so much tripe. If Ryu Hayabusa someday become unemployed as a ninja, will shower the deals as neighborhood butcher.

Note that the game presents us with a dozen bosses. Against several of them, we have to fight even more than once, so the number of clashes is around thirty. Many are quite clonic demons in their attack patterns, but there are other very original, as quickened version of the Statue of Liberty, who leaves his pedestal of Ellis Island to become six penny butcher.

The title includes a pair of news regarding the delivery of PlayStation 3 in the form of game modes. On one hand, we Carrier Ninja , a time trial mode in which we must overcome a scenario in the shortest possible time, through five checkpoints and annihilating all enemies that come your way, to there by gain additional seconds. In total, there are five stages and we can choose any of the four characters in costume, weapon and magic ninja we want.

Moreover, we find the Missions Team , who are 35 events consisting of annihilating enemies and bosses under different circumstances. You have to choose a partner for you to handle the IA and help us. We introduce made thus not understood that was not included the option to play co-op with a friend in local network or online.

The technical section of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus is remarkable. The component  of gore is very accomplished and also shine the cinematic, which appearance look very realistic. The course of the fighting is fluid, usually, but the graphics engine suffers at times: there are small slowdowns when they meet many enemies on the screen and by using refilled attacks, sharpness is lost and some are obvious jagged edges.

Aesthetically, struck by the beauty of some places, such as the Brooklyn Bridge in New York or the canals of Venice, on whose waters Ryu can walk. Can not say the same for the enemies, who are not particularly varied. As for the sound, the voices, with some lip-sync failures, and the music goes unnoticed.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus has shown a remarkable adaptation of one of the “hack and slash” highlights of recent years. Its combos festival violence and looks great on the screen of PS Vita, and development is long and challenging. However, the set does not treasure as much the quality as the first Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus but don’t forget that this is a “port” version of a title with several years behind, hardly news that no longer attract as much attention as when it was first born.
