Brothers A Tale of Two Sons Review takes you through a struggle of two brothers finding a solution for their father.
Brothers A Tale of Two Sons is an adventure full of drama that tells the journey of two brothers to save his father. A journey full of situations that they will need to overcome.
From some time now, some development teams seem to be obsessed with one goal: to get excited. Fun is not enough, they have to make us mourn if possible. Many independent developers are exploring this route ( Journey , The Unfinished Swan …) and increasingly larger studios. A clear example of this is the new production of Starbreeze.
This change of pace on all fronts, from the aesthetic (much more colorful), the game (not shooter subjective) or the plot. And is that Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is primarily a drama. We meet two brothers, being small which carries the guilt of seeing her mother die drowned, unable to save her. And now, along with his older brother, is facing a new problem: his father, ill with a strange disease needs a cure that grows on the top of a distant tree.
Both brothers embark in a long journey that, like all epics, is not without its dangers. But if both brothers work together nothing can resist them and that is one of the main pillars of the game. During the adventure we control the two brothers, each assigned to a stick. Thus, with the left handle the older brother, while the right control the child (with its own trigger, each brother performs actions related to the environment, such as holding onto a ledge).
What does a Tale of Two Sons offer? Actually, it’s an adventure that combines exploration, platforming and puzzles as action as such (understood as shooting or combat). Here most of the weight is to combine the skills of each brother to move forward. For example, the greater is stronger and can push certain gates, or swimming, while the little one can slip through the bars of a gate.
But there’s more: cooperating play together, sawing a tree down through a steep wall with a rope tied. There are variety of situations, but always the key is to combine the skills of both brothers , as we travel around magic and colorful places in which we live trolls even help you move through the mountains. The adventure is linear, with a single path, but there are very brief point bifurcations for some achievement or trophy with some puzzle almost always optional.
On paper, the idea of Brothers is interesting, but is not without flaws and areas for improvement. To begin with the most serious, the adventure is short, very, very short. It is a game in one sitting and in 3-4 hours, you can finish it without too many problems.
That does not mean you have some time you can move, but the sediment that is not as deep as in Journey. In fact, some persist in baptize Brothers as the closest thing to Journey you’ll find on Xbox 360 but the truth is that they are different game styles, with a focus to thrill also different.
Control handle of characters with each stick is not new, and there were games that explored this approach as Kuru Kuru Mix on PS2, it may be somewhat crude and confusing at first, but not being a game too be difficult, eventually you get used to. Yes, sometimes gives the feeling that the characters are “hooked” to the environment, slowing a little progress … but it is nothing serious.
All this makes Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons an interesting title that deserves to be played by anyone who likes different experiences, it‘s a good game that will entertain you while it lasts.
