In an attempt to revitalize sales of Wii U and to join the craze for toys to life, Nintendo introduced its digital event at E3 2014 amiibo initiative, which will use collectible figures of the most popular characters in The Legend of Zelda , Mario Bros. , Metroid , Star Fox , Pokémon , etc.., in various matches.
The mechanics consists in positioning the figure on the touch screen of Wii U GamePad, similarly to the way used creatures Skylanders on the Portal for the active character in the game. The difference with other similar concepts such as Disney Infinity is that Nintendo figurines may generate experience and level up, which results in increased capabilities and acquiring new skills.
When this system is released while Super Smash Bros. , will be compatible with Mario Kart 8 , Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker , Mario Party 10 and Yoshi’s Woolly World , but the intent of Nintendo is to allow its use in as many games as possible expanding interaction with new mechanics and modalities. In fact, a peripheral amiibo 3DS will be launched later this year.
There are still some in the air regarding the mechanics of using amiibo and above all, need to see how flexible the system is, but regardless of what else is shown on E3 2014, is an exciting addition to the Nintendo consoles ultimately will help increase sales.
