Activision Wants to Start Charging for Call of Duty online

Wow are you serious I have never seen such greed in the gaming world as I have with Activision. Now I understand why Infinityward left the company. They aren't happy with selling over a billion dollars worth of games but they want more. Michael Pachter stated the following the industry needs to start thinking of adding subscription models to its multiplayer experiences with Activision and Call of Duty leading the charge. So not only are you going to have to pay for xbox live but now they want you to pay for playing call of duty. He want on to say:

“We estimate that a total of 12 million consumers are playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 for an average of 10 hours per week on the two platforms’ respective networks, and the continued enjoyment of this game (along with an estimated 6 million Halo online players, 3 million EA Sports players, and 5 million players playing other games, such as Battlefield, Red Dead Redemption, Left 4 Dead and Grand Theft Auto) has sucked the available time away from what otherwise would be spent playing newly purchased games.”

He added: “We see this as a continuing problem, and think that unless and until the publishers come up with a business model that appropriately captures the value created by the multiplayer experience, we are destined to see a migration of game playing away from packaged goods purchases and toward multiplayer online.

“We think that it is incumbent upon Activision, with the most popular multiplayer game, to take the first step to address monetization of multiplayer. It is too early to tell whether that will be a monthly subscription, tournament entry fees, micro transaction fees, or a combination of all three, but we expect to see the company take some action by year-end, when Call of Duty Black Ops launches.”

So we figure to play Black Ops online will cost you $9.99 a month to play online, and $30 for a yearly. This is an outrage. Are you willing to pay?

People play the games they want to play, you can’t charge someone to do something just because they like doing it…that’s pretty much evil. Why aren’t the leaders of the gaming industry satisfied with what they have? Rely on sequels to popular games to increase revenue by all means, but don’t charge almost $100 for a single year’s worth of gaming! I know I’d rather play the slightly less enjoyable $40 game than the more enjoyable $100 one. At the start more people might be playing the more expensive one, which is the reason it’s expensive, but before long a lot of gamers would be turned off the champagne games by their price to make cheaper games more fun to play anyway due to larger online communities.

Hahaha… I finally get it now! Modern Warfare 2 must suck so bad, that even Activision thinks it should die!

Ha! Haha! Activision really thinks that they can get away with charging for online compatability for specific games? Thats ridiculous! With all of the other games out on the market that are not “pay-to-play” Activision will only continue to influence how gamers envision their company in a negative way. Will all of the crap that Activision is up to, the Zampella lawsuit and now this, gamers are simply starting to lose trust in Activision as a company. Personally I find it funny that Michael Pachter could possibly be so out of tune with the gaming community, that he would ever consider this as a viable solution to what he considers as “a continuing problem”. Did Activision learn nothing from EA’s pay to play proposal and it’s negative response from the community? I would never pay to play a game like Call of Duty: Black Ops and I think I speak for the majority of the gaming of the community when I say that this idea is ridiculous and will only serve to diminish Activision’s control over the gaming industry. Just say no to pay-to-play.

This right here is the biggest bunch of fuckin bullshit I have ever seen in my life. MW2 sucked dick and now they want to charge me monthly for more of this shit? FUCK THAT! I’m gonna stick to Halo then. Activision can eat a dick and die, EA can eat a dick and die and any other fucking greedy ass company that wants to pull this shit can eat a dick and die too. If this becomes standard, I’m going back to the PC and I’m going to pirate ALL my games where I can play for free online and get cool mods and a community that actually knows about and gives a flying fuck about balance in games.

FUCK YOU ACTIVISION! You even try this shit and you will go bankrupt within the first few months.. You seriously think that anyones gonna bother buying this game if you make us pay to play online?? SERIOUSLY?? We already pay $50/year to play ANY games online, what the hell makes you think that we’re going to pay anything else to play 1 game? You guys are nuts seriously… This will be your downfall and the end of your company! I hope your drown in your own pool of greed fuckers!

man i think that is stupid that you have to pay to play online none of the other call of duty games had that so why start now….and i think that since you have to pay a lot less people will get the game…some will get it for the campaign, and some will actually get it for the online but thats their decision wither they want to pay $9.99/month or $30.00/yearly to play online

Simple sulotion to this, dont buy any Activision games, so when they so that less of there game products have sold they’ll decide, “Hey mabye charging money for no reason was stupid, we should stop so our games will be bought again”

If this does occur i am definitely not playing anymore call of duty’s. They will lose buyers and they will also lose their fans. I bet many people will stop playing their games.
